Skilled Workforce for the Future (YIP)

The Skilled Workforce for the Future program is the latest of CAMC’s successful youth internship programs. Its objective is to develop interest in careers within aviation and aerospace, provide industry information, and training options, all leading to a more skilled workforce for the future.

The program builds on the established and successful Aviation Maintenance Orientation Program (AMOP), which gives high school students academic orientation and work-based experience in aviation maintenance and technology. The AMOP also includes the recently developed Interactive Multimedia Learning Tool (IMLT) – a web-based supplement to the curriculum that includes video clips, quizzes and material on the basic concepts of aircraft operation and maintenance. It consists of three modules: Theory of Flight, Aircraft Power Plants and Aircraft Structures.

The Skilled Workforce for the Future program has been developed in consultation with stakeholders in the industry and provides an exciting link to careers in aviation and aerospace, and is an important component of CAMC's strategic plan. Twenty high schools across Canada, totalling approximately 400 students from grades 9 through 12 are participating in the program each year. The Air Cadet League of Canada and its 25,000+ cadets are a recent welcome addition to the program.

The Skilled Workforce for the Future program is also working towards the addition of AMOP high schools in Northern Canada, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador over the next three years.

Provincial Industry / League Action Teams (PILAT)

Another aspect of the project is the PILAT – a one year project that will establish Provincial Action Teams to identify current youth resources, establish new ones and to heighten Air Cadets’ awareness of the aviation and aerospace sector. This project will bring together representation from industry, aviation and aerospace organizations, DND personnel and the Air Cadet League of Canada.
