Adam McGrath stared out over the cockpit, trying to make out the Brandon airport somewhere below. He looked left and right, straining to make out some familiar marker before he realized he had set up perfectly for a straight-in approach and Brandon was dead ahead. His instructor chuckled, “Adam, power flight is not like those gliders you flew last summer, everything comes a lot faster.” “Mr. Vodopivec is right,” Adam thought, “you plan ahead as usual but you have to make critical decisions a great deal quicker.” Without too much fanfare, Adam put the Cessna 172 into a final approach and “greased” in a landing. “Now don’t get cocky, Adam,” Mr. Vodopiviec quipped, quoting his favourite line from Star Wars. His student gave him a bemused stare and reached down to shut off the computer.
