Feb 6 2009: First Flight of the replica Silver Dart

These photographs were taken during the first flight of the replica 'Silver Dart' which took place Friday, 6 February 2009.  Piloted by Bjarni Tryggvason, the replica Silver Dart flew up to 3000 feet and up to 10 feet off the ground.

The replica aircraft was built in Welland, ON, and included approximately 6,000 man-hours of labour. The aircraft is scheduled to fly in Baddeck, NS, on Feb. 23rd to commemorate the Centennial of Flight in Canada.

The original Silver Dart was the first powered, heavier-than-air, controlled flight in Canada.
