| University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) Aerospace Centre (at Abbotsford International Airport) | | | UFV’s Aircraft Structures Technician Program is Transport Canada approved basic training and introduces students to the basics of aircraft structural maintenance and repair. The program is 42 weeks of full-time study, with time spent in the course credited towards obtaining the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer “S” license.Lab and shop instruction are patterned after on-the-job situations. Students work in our hangar at the Abbotsford International Airport on real-life damage scenarios on actual aircraft. Throughout the program, they encounter demands that would be placed on someone working as an Aircraft Structures Technician.Students are prepared for:• Repair and overhaul of fixed wing aircraft • Rotary wing (helicopter) repair and overhaul • Aircraft parts manufacturing • Structural damage assessment • Composite component fabrication and repair • Aircraft structures assembly and modification An industry-led program advisory committee meets annually to ensure the latest industry developments are included within the curriculum. Training follows a modular system that begins by developing a variety of basic skills and builds on them to develop the specialized skills required in industry.
