MONTRÉAL: The Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council (CAMC) announced last Thursday the launch of five new National Occupational Standards for workers in aviation maintenance and aerospace manufacturing at its 14th Annual Forum “Ramping Up for Growth”: - Structures Assembler
- Composite Fabricator
- Electrical/Electronic Assembler
- Aircraft Mechanical Assembler
- Aviation Maintenance Manager
CAMC champions and leads initiatives to develop the overall strength and economic well-being of the industry through the development of its workforce. By focusing on practical results-oriented professional development, CAMC has created the only national certification and credentialing system in Canada for aviation and aerospace workers. National Occupational Standards form the foundation for this system: these standards define the skills, knowledge and competencies required to perform the duties of an occupation. The Structures Assembler, Composite Fabricator, Electrical/Electronic Assembler, and Aircraft Mechanical Assembler National Occupational Standards address the current need by industry to develop nationally certified manufacturing programs for the aerospace sector. These standards will compliment and augment the existing group of nationally recognized programs and establish a basis for certifying qualified assemblers and fabricators employed within the aviation and aerospace manufacturing sector. The creation of the Aviation Maintenance Manager Standard will, for the first time, give workers in the maintenance sector a set of standards and a certification process in which they can base their career development en route to managerial positions. The standard has been established at three levels for personnel advancing from worker-level positions (e.g., Technician, Mechanic, AME) to entry-level managers (e.g., Leadhand, Supervisor, Cell Leader), as well as the next two levels or tiers, including Department Director and Director of Maintenance. “The release of the five new National Occupational Standards is key to supporting the environment we now find ourselves in - Ramping Up for Growth!
