Aviation and Aerospace Industry Overview

Today's aviation maintenance and aerospace industries hold a wealth or opportunity as one of the fastest growing sectors in Canada, and the world. And, despite our relatively small economy, Canada is the 3rd largest aerospace producer in the world. In Canada, over 138,000 people are employed in the aviation and aerospace sector.

As these industries continue to strive higher and faster, they offer careers that are among the most exciting, stable and challenging. The range of knowledge needed to keep these high-speed machine safely in the air is vast, employing engineers, designers, mechanics, machinists, technologists, technicians, painters and inspector who may specialize in physics, chemistry, hydraulics, pneumatics, metallurgy, avionics, gas dynamics and microelectronics just to name a few.  The aviation and aerospace industries offer many exciting, rewarding and unique careers that challenge many interests.

Over the next five years, 40% of Canada’s aviation maintenance workforce, both civil and military, will be eligible for retirement. That means if the industry continues to grow at its current rate of 5%, Canada’s maintenance and aerospace workforce will need to double over the next 14 years.

The Opportunity to build a career in one of Canada’s most dynamic industries has never been greater.
